This is one of those old time favorites that came out of Momma's kitchen, and just the name of the recipe takes me back to another time. This is such a delicious & sweet down home cake that I remember so well.

Ingredients You'll Need
CAKE BATTER:
2 cup self rising flour (or 2 cups flour plus 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt)
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 whole eggs slightly beaten
1 can fruit cocktail with syrup
TOPPING:
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup walnuts
1 cup shredded coconut
Directions
Cake Batter:
Sift together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, soda, salt and baking powder if substituting for self-rise flour).
In a separate bowl slightly beat the eggs and add the fruit cocktail, stirring well.
Combine the wet with the dry ingredients mixing well, then pour into a greased and floured 9x13 baking pan.
(Optional: Sprinkle 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup walnuts over the batter before baking.)
Bake 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
Cool slightly in pan while making topping.
Topping:
Combine sugar, milk, butter, and vanilla in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes and then add walnuts and coconut.
Pour the topping over the cake as evenly as you can and finish cooling.
