Ingredients You'll Need
1/4 kg gawar
1 potato
1 onion, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 hing
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp garam masala
3 tsp fresh grated coconut
salt to taste
Directions
Wash gawar well in water. Remove the ends and chop the gawar in bunch. Keep aside.
Peel the potato. Chop it in small cubes. Do not cut the potato very thick. Else it will take more time than gavar to cook.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, when they start to crackle, add chopped onion. Saute until onion becomes tender and light brown.
Now add chopped tomato. Fry for few minutes.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, hing, garam masala. Fry for 4 – 5 minutes.
Add gavar, potato. Fry for 2 – 3 minutes. Add little water.
Cover the pan with a lid. Cook gavar on low flame.
Cook gavar and potato for 10 – 12 minutes. In case water dries and gavar is not yet cooked, you can add some more water.
Once gavar is cooked, add salt and grated coconut. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes more.
