More about the recipe: Rooted in postwar Quebec farmland traditions, this recipe reflects resilience and community care during a time when the economy was harsh and rationing shaped daily life. During the war and its aftermath, governments issued meal tickets to control scarce food supplies, and many families in cities faced hunger. My grandmother, born in 1934, grew up rurally, raising animals and preserving herbs. With the food they produced and prepared with care, my family helped sustain neighbors through these challenging times. Every bowl tells a story of resourcefulness, love, and heritage. It is with a full heart that I carry forward this recipe that once nourished communities.
