Why I Love This Recipe

My grandmother left me so many of her recipes. Everytime I bake one, I can remember one of the days at her house I actually got to enjoy it! These were a Christmas favorite!

Ingredients You'll Need

1 Cup Shorting (not butter flavored)
1 Cup White Sugar
1 Cup Brown Sugar (light)
2 Eggs Beaten
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp Baking soda
1 tbsp cold water
2 Cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
2 Cups Oatmeal
1 Cup Shredded coconut
1 cup Chopped gum drops ( I like the purple one's I get at the $1 Tree)

Directions

Preheat oven 375 degrees

Cream Shortening and sugars together

Beats eggs and vanilla and baking soda dissolved in water.

Combine egg mixture with the shortening and sugar mixture

Sift FLour with baking powder and salt, then stif slowly into creamed mixture.

Add remaining ingredients and shape into small balls (about 1" diameter).

Place on a well greased cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes.

Remove and cool. Shake on some confectioners sugar to give a nice snow effect during the holiday!
