Grandma Allen's White Bread
Why I Love This Recipe
Lynn: This recipe is as I originally got it from Grandma. She typed it herself and contains her side comments, typo's and all.
Ingredients You'll Need
1/2 cup oil
6 cups warm water
2 tbsp salt
4 tbsp honey or sugar
3 tbsp yeast*
10 cups flour**
I have a bread mixer and start mixing it first by adding the flour a
little at a time until it gets the right consistency. You have to add
maybe as much as 6 more cups of flour or even 8 cups. I usually mix it on
the bread mixer for about 10 minutes sometimes not as long. Leave your
bread pan and let it rise in a warm place until it almost goes over our
pan. Then punch it down good an mix a few more stokes and let it rise a
second time and then put it out in 6 greased loaf tins and let it rise
about 10 minutes more while you get your oven ready to cook it at 350
degrees for an hour.
* I use yeast I get from the health food store and you don't have to mix
it with water and a teaspoon of sugar ahead of time and let it get start
to bubble good.
** I use 1 cup of wheat germ, 1 cup rye or soy bean flour or both. Count
these as part of the 10 cups of flour.
