We all love those greasy onion rings from Sonic and Burger King, right? No Bueno! These are better for you :)
Ingredients You'll Need
2 Large Sweet Onions, peeled
1 qt. Low-Fat Buttermilk
3-4 egg whites
2/3 cup. Whole Wheat Flour
3/4 cup. ground Cornmeal
1 cup. Panko Breadcrumbs
Salt, pepper, and paprika
Oil Spray
Directions
Peel your onions and cut into 1/2 inch slices.
Then, pop each layer of onion out.
Place onion rings in a dish and pour in buttermilk.
Cover and refrigerate for 4-12 hours.
4-12 hours later-
Pre-Heat oven to 425.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, combine egg whites (beat first).
Flour, breadcrumbs, cornmeal, and seasonings go in a separate bowl.
Remove soaked onion rings from the fridge.
Take each ring, dip into the eggs, then the flour mixture.
Place coated rings on a baking sheet, spray with olive oil.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, remove and flip the rings over.
Bake another 10-15 minutes.
