Why I Love This Recipe
Funyuns, the iconic onion-flavored corn rings, were created by accident in the 1960s when a Frito-Lay employee misread instructions and over-fried a batch of onion rings, resulting in the crunchy, savory snack we know and love today.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 (8-ounce) bag Funyuns, divided
1 (750 ml) bottle vodka
1 teaspoon citric acid or 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions
Place half of the Funyuns in a large, airtight container or jar with a lid.
Pour the vodka over the Funyuns, ensuring they are fully submerged.
Add the citric acid or lemon juice to the mixture.
Seal the container and let it sit at room temperature for 24 hours, shaking or stirring occasionally.
After 24 hours, strain the vodka through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth, discarding the Funyuns.
Rinse the container and add the remaining half of the Funyuns to the infused vodka.
Let the mixture sit for another 24 hours, shaking or stirring occasionally.
After the second infusion, strain the vodka again, discarding the remaining Funyuns.
Transfer the Funyun-infused vodka to a clean bottle or decanter for serving.
Serve chilled or over ice, and enjoy the unique and flavorful twist on a classic spirit.
