Homemade Flour Tortillas

Why I Love This Recipe
Ingredients You'll Need
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sugar
4 Tbsp. shortening
1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp. warm water
Directions
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into a bowl. Cut in the shortening one tablespoon at a time until it's kinda crumbly, almost beadlike. Add the water slowly and mix with your hands until all the water is incorporated. Remove from the bowl and knead on a floured surface for three to five minutes. If the dough seems sticky add a little extra flour as you knead the dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let rest. Take a nap or chat on the bb, come back 30 minutes later and cut the dough into six pieces. Roll dough on a floured surface as thinly as possible in a shape somewhat resembling a circle. Remember, rustic looking shaped tortillas are cool. If you prefer, Place a plate or other round object on top of the dough and cut a circle.
Heat a griddle or fry pan to 350° or medium heat, drop the tortillas one at a time onto the grilling surface and cook for 30 seconds on each side. The tortillas develop small bubbles as they cook, this is good. Store the cooked tortillas on a plate and cover with a towel or plastic wrap until ready to serve. Dry tortillas that crack are not cool
