Why I Love This Recipe
Asparagus is known for being one of the first vegetables harvested in spring, symbolizing renewal and fresh starts in many cultures.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 pound fresh asparagus, washed and trimmed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, divided
2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional for extra flavor)
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional for topping)
Directions
Preheat your oven broiler.
Arrange trimmed asparagus on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper, and toss to coat evenly.
Broil asparagus 4-6 inches from the heat for 5-7 minutes, turning once halfway through, until tender and just starting to char.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, remaining salt, pepper, and minced garlic if using.
Remove asparagus from broiler and brush generously with the honey-lemon glaze.
Return asparagus under the broiler for 1-2 minutes to caramelize the glaze (watch closely to avoid burning).
Remove from oven, sprinkle with Parmesan if desired, and serve warm.
Pairs Well With
Grilled chicken, roasted potatoes, or a crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc.
