Why I Love This Recipe

Light fluffy spongy cornbread balls.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup cornmeal**
1/2 cup self-rising flour**
**(can adjust amount of cornmeal and flour. Keep the proportions 1/2 meal to 1/2 flour)
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
pinch of baking soda
salt to taste
1 cup buttermilk***
*** (not sure exact amount of buttermilk. I add buttermilk to the batter until it is firm but slides off the spoon with a nudge of the finger.)


Mix dry ingredients and onions. Mix buttermilk into dry ingredients until batter is firm but slides off the spoon with a nudge of the finger.)

Heat grease to medium high heat. Using a spoon with a small bowl to scoop batter and gently drop into heated grease. Fry until golden brown on one side then turn and fry until golden brown on both sides. If mix is just right, the puppies may flip on their own when half cooked.
