Coffee jelly (a.k.a. gelée or jello) — that chilled, sweet coffee topped with whipped cream — is a Mills family favorite. This year we’ve taken our recipe to the next level. Jelly coffee, similar to bubble tea, has chunks of delicious jello at the bottom of a creamy cup of iced coffee. There are two variations of our jelly coffee. The first involves just adding coffee and milk, creating a bubble tea-like texture. The second involves chopping the jelly with a food processor until it takes on the consistency of a milkshake. Both variations are delicious!
Ingredients You'll Need
COFFEE JELLY
1 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon cold water OR 1/2 cup whisky plus 1 tablespoon cold water
2 cups fresh coffee
1/4 cup or less granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
JELLY COFFEE
1/2 milk
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 cup chilled coffee (if making Variation 1)
(optional) whipped cream
Directions
COFFEE JELLY
Brew 2 cups of coffee
In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1 tablespoon of cold water and allow it to set for at least 1 minute
Over low heat, whisk the sugar into the remaining 1/2 cup of water until the sugar is fully dissolved
Whisk the gelatin into your coffee
Whisk the coffee mixture and vanilla extract into your sugar water
Pour your mixture into a loaf pan and place it in the refrigerator to at least 2.5 hours
Once set, cut the jelly into cubes or, if you have a melon baller, scoop out jelly circles. Now you are ready to make your jelly coffee!
