Why I Love This Recipe

Coffee jelly (a.k.a. gelée or jello) — that chilled, sweet coffee topped with whipped cream — is a Mills family favorite. This year we’ve taken our recipe to the next level. Jelly coffee, similar to bubble tea, has chunks of delicious jello at the bottom of a creamy cup of iced coffee. There are two variations of our jelly coffee. The first involves just adding coffee and milk, creating a bubble tea-like texture. The second involves chopping the jelly with a food processor until it takes on the consistency of a milkshake. Both variations are delicious!

Ingredients You'll Need

COFFEE JELLY
1 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon cold water OR 1/2 cup whisky plus 1 tablespoon cold water
2 cups fresh coffee
1/4 cup or less granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

JELLY COFFEE
1/2 milk
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 cup chilled coffee (if making Variation 1)
(optional) whipped cream

Directions

COFFEE JELLY
Brew 2 cups of coffee

In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1 tablespoon of cold water and allow it to set for at least 1 minute

Over low heat, whisk the sugar into the remaining 1/2 cup of water until the sugar is fully dissolved

Whisk the gelatin into your coffee

Whisk the coffee mixture and vanilla extract into your sugar water

Pour your mixture into a loaf pan and place it in the refrigerator to at least 2.5 hours

Once set, cut the jelly into cubes or, if you have a melon baller, scoop out jelly circles. Now you are ready to make your jelly coffee!

JELLY COFFEE
VARIATION 1: Just add coffee

Fill your glass 1/3rd the way with coffee jelly cubes

Add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup to your glass

Add your chilled coffee and milk to taste

VARIATION 2: Tastes like a milkshake!

Fill your glass 1/3rd the way with coffee jelly cubes

Add the following to your blender or food processor:
1 tablespoon of Maple Syrup
1 cup of coffee jelly
1/2 of milk or 1/4 cup of vanilla ice cream

Blend the ingredients until there are no large chunks of coffee jelly

Pour the blended mixture into your glass, over the coffee jelly cubes

(optional) Top with brown sugar whipped cream

Enjoy!

Pairs Well With

Ice cream or a hot summer day!
