Joanne's Sweet Potatoes - updated

"Original recipe was from 1933; Joanne says the apples were nice with the potatoes"

The original recipe called for a syrup made with brown sugar and water which was a stand-by back in the day in place of more expensive maple syrup
Ingredients You'll Need
4 Sweet Potatoes
4 Granny Smith apples
2 tsp maple syrup (may use more)
2 tsp water
1 tsp salt
4 Tbsp butter
Directions
Parboil potatoes cut into dice
Pare, core, and cut apples into cubes
Grease casserole
Place in layers sprinkled with salt
Pour over the maple syrup mixed with water
Dot with the butter
Bake 30 minutes
Garnish with marshmallows and return to oven to brown
Chopped hazelnuts and buttered breadcrumbs also maybe used
