Nadan Karimeen Fry is a spicy exotic dish in Kerala. Pearl Spot or Karimeen is found in abundance in Kerala backwaters.
Ingredients You'll Need
Karimeen, Pearl Spot - 2 Nos, large sized
Ginger garlic paste - 1 Tablespoon
Lemon juice - 1 Tablespoon
Red Chilly powder - 1 ½ Tablespoon, adjust according to your spice level
Black pepper powder - 1 - 2 Teaspoon
Turmeric powder - ½ Teaspoon
Water - 1 Tablespoon
Coconut oil as required
Salt to taste
Directions
Clean and make 3-4 slits on each side of the fish. Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely.
Mix together the red chilly powder, black pepper powder, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, salt along with water and make a thick paste.
Marinate the fish with this masala and refrigerate it for about 1 hour. Make sure to apply the masala in the gashes and inside the stomach cavity.
Heat enough oil in a pan, place the marinated fish and fry for about 6-12 minutes on low heat.
Then flip the fish to the other side and fry the for about 6-12 minutes on low heat.
When both sides of the fish becomes golden brown in color, remove it from the oil and serve hot.
