Directions
This is how a real Kentucky Mint Julip is made. May be to late for this year, but save this recipe for your next Derby Party or any time you want a julip.
2 cups Sugar
2 Cups Water
6 Sprigs of Mint
Kentucky bourbon (your choice) Markers Mark is A great choice
Ice
Bring the water to a boil, add sugar and simmer for 2 minutes until sugar is desolved. Pour into a 9X9 baking pan and cool in the fridge. After the sugar syrup is cool, crush the mint leaves and stems to release the oils. Put in with the syrup and let steep for 4-6 hours in the fridge.
To make the julip fill a julip cup or rocks glass with ice. Put 2 teaspoons of the syrup (with the mint removed) over the ice. Fill glass with bourbon and stir to combine. Put a sprig of mint into the glass and enjoy.
