Why I Love This Recipe

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup soft butter
1 tbs. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cherry jelly
2 tsp. powdered sugar


In a large bowl, combine sugar and butter; beat until light and fluffy. Add milk, vanilla, and egg; blend well. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt; mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and put in refridgerator for three hours.

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Use well floured surface and rolling pin to roll out dough 1/3 of the cookie dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Keep remaining dough in the refrigerator. Cut with floured 3 inch star cookie cutter. Using one inch round cookie cutter, cut out center of half of the dough stars to form cookie tops. Place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Return to dough centers to remaining dough for re-rolling.

Bake at 425 degrees for 4 min. Cool one minute, remove from cookie sheet and cool 15 more minutes.

To assemble cookies, spread 1/2 tsp jelly over bottom side of each whole cookie. Sprinkle powdered sugar over tops of cut out cookies and place over jelly.
