Why I Love This Recipe
Ingredients You'll Need
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 to 3 tbl. sugar for tops
Cream together, shortening, margarine, 1 cup sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Sift together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Gradually stir into creamed mixture to make a smooth dough. Chill.
Roll into 3/4" balls; place 1 1/2" apart on uncreased baking sheet and flatten with fork. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in low oven 325 degrees 12-15 minutes.
NOTE: You can tint dough or sprinkle with colored sugar.
