Why I Love This Recipe
Bread pudding has been a popular dessert since the 13th century, and it was originally known as 'poor man's pudding' as it was a way to use stale bread.
Ingredients You'll Need
8 slices of flattened bread
2 cups of milk
2 cups of your favorite ice cream
1 cup of mixed fruits (bananas and berries are excellent choices)
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of chocolate syrup
1/2 cup crushed cookies or granola for the crumble topping (prepare extra for layers if desired)
Optional: extra fruit or chocolate chips for garnish
Directions
Flatten the bread slices with a rolling pin, then cut them into small pieces to fit easily into Mason jars.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, melted ice cream, sugar, and chocolate syrup until well mixed.
Dip each piece of bread into the milk mixture so it soaks up the liquid but doesn’t fall apart.
In each Mason jar, start by adding a few pieces of soaked bread at the bottom.
Add a layer of mixed fruits over the bread.
Pour a little bit of the remaining milk mixture over the fruits.
Sprinkle a layer of the crumble topping or crushed cookies.
Repeat layering the soaked bread, fruits, milk mixture, and crumble if you have space, until the jars are nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
Sprinkle a final layer of crumble topping on top for a delightful crunch.
Cover the Mason jars and chill them in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, or until the dessert is set.
Optionally, garnish with extra fruit or chocolate chips right before serving.
