Why I Love This Recipe

My nana loves making her own apple sauce. Can be used instead of rhubarb filling for 'Madeleine's Homegrown Rhubarb Crumble' though the same crumble mixture is used.

Ingredients You'll Need

At least 4 large cooking apples (replace a couple with sweet/dessert apples if wanting a sweeter crumble filling)
Demarara/caster sugar

1. Peel and segment apples, removing core and seeds

2. Cube or dice for a smoother sauce

3. Place into a microwaveable glass bowl

4. Cover with 2 heaped tbsp. demarara sugar

5. Microwave until hot and sugar is dissolved (taste sweetness, if too tart then add more sugar and mircowave again)

6. If for apple sauce then allow to cool then cover and place in fridge

7. If for apple crumble then place in crumble tray/dish and follow crumble recipe as in Notes

8. If you want to save for another time then spoon into freezer bags and put in freezer (it will keep for ages)
