OLD FASHIONED PRUNE CAKE

Why I Love This Recipe
This is a recipe from a cook book I bought at a hospital guild in 1975. The Nuns were raising money to provide some things very much needed in the nursary.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 cup oil - 3 eggs - 1-1/2 cups sugar - 2 cups all purpose flour (sifted)
1 tsp. soda - 1 tsp. cinnamon - 1 tsp. nutmeg - 1 tsp. allspice
1 up buttermilk - 1 cup cooked prunes (seeded and cut in small pieces)
1 tsp vanilla - 1 cup chopped pecans - 1 tsp. salt
Directions
Grease and flour a 9 x 13 cake pan.
Pre heat oven to 325%
Sift together dry ingredients.
On medium speed of mixer beat together oil and sugar;
add eggs and beat till light and fluffy.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in nuts and prunes.
Pour into prepared pan and bake one hour.
Glaze:
1 cup sugar - 1/2 cup buttermilk - 1/2 stick butter -
1/2 tsp. soda - 1/2 tsp vanilla
Mix together in a 2 quart cooker.
Cook over low heat (do not stir) until soft ball stage.
Pour over warm cake.
(Soda will cause foaming, stir it down).
