Why I Love This Recipe

This is a recipe from a cook book I bought at a hospital guild in 1975. The Nuns were raising money to provide some things very much needed in the nursary.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 cup oil - 3 eggs - 1-1/2 cups sugar - 2 cups all purpose flour (sifted)
1 tsp. soda - 1 tsp. cinnamon - 1 tsp. nutmeg - 1 tsp. allspice
1 up buttermilk - 1 cup cooked prunes (seeded and cut in small pieces)
1 tsp vanilla - 1 cup chopped pecans - 1 tsp. salt

Directions

Grease and flour a 9 x 13 cake pan.

Pre heat oven to 325%

Sift together dry ingredients.

On medium speed of mixer beat together oil and sugar;

add eggs and beat till light and fluffy.

Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.

Stir in nuts and prunes.

Pour into prepared pan and bake one hour.

Glaze:

1 cup sugar - 1/2 cup buttermilk - 1/2 stick butter -

1/2 tsp. soda - 1/2 tsp vanilla

Mix together in a 2 quart cooker.

Cook over low heat (do not stir) until soft ball stage.

Pour over warm cake.

(Soda will cause foaming, stir it down).
