Oven Stew for Two

This is the perfect meal for a cold winter night. Simple to prepare and very tasty.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 Tbsp. all purpose flour
3/4 tsp salt
dash pepper
3/4 lb boneless beef chuck cut in 1" cubes
1 Tbsp shortening (Crisco)
1 10 oz can tomato soup
1 soup can water (1 1/4 cup)
3/4 C chopped onion
1/4 tsp dried basil, crushed
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed (2 cups)
2 medium carrots, cut into 1" pcs (1 cup)
1/4 C dry red wine (or water)
Directions
Combine flour, salt and pepper. Coat meat cubes with seasoned flour. In a small Dutch oven (heavy pot with a lid), brown meat in hot shortening. Add tomato soup, soup can of water, chopped onion and basil. Bake, uncovered, at 375 for 1 hour. Add potatoes, carrots and wine; cover and bake until meat and vegetables are tender, about 1 hour longer.
