Why I Love This Recipe

Ingredients You'll Need

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. ginger or cinnamon
1 cup diced fresh peaches
6 oz. cream cheese, softened
4 ½ cups buttermilk baking mix
1 cup water
1 ½ pounds fresh purple plums, thickly sliced (about 4 cups)
1 egg, lightly beaten

In small bowl, combine sugar, and ginger or cinnamon and set aside.

In mixing bowl, stir peaches into cream cheese, and set aside.

In another bowl, measure baking mix.

Make well in center and add water.

Stir with fork to make soft dough.

On floured board, knead 3 or 4 times to smooth.

Divide dough into 12 equal balls and roll each into a 6-inch circle.

Arrange 1/3 cup of plum wedges on half of each circle, leaving ½-inch margin around edge.

Sprinkle 1 Tbs.

Sugar mixture over plums on each circle and top with a generous Tbs. of cheese mixture.

For each turnover, moisten edges with water and fold dough over filling to form a half circle.

Press edges together with the tines of fork to seal completely.

Place turnovers on baking sheets.

Brush with egg and sprinkle generously with sugar.

Bake in preheated 375° oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden.

Cool on rack 5 minutes.

Serve warm or cold.

Turnovers can be made ahead and reheated.
