This recipe was from Frieda Gehrls. Peppernuts keep a long time after they are baked, improving in taste as they age. Make at Thanksgiving time for a Christmas treat.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 c sugar
1/2 c butter
1/2 c dark karo syrup
1 T baking soda dissolved in 2 T milk
1/2 t cardamom
1/2 t allspice, or more
5-6 c flour
Directions
Dissolve sugar butter and syrup in saucepan. Cool. Mix in dry ingredients, kneading flour as mixture gets stiffer. Form into rolls and refrigerate. Slice and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until browned.
