Taste Of Home - Elizabeth Poire

For the true chocolate lover, substitute semisweet chips for the vanilla chips

Ingredients You'll Need

1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 pkg. (10 to 12 oz.) vanilla or white chips

Directions

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and both of the sugars until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs, one at a time.

Beat well after each addition.

Beat in the extract.

Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add to the creamed mixture.

Set aside 1/4 cup vanilla chips

Stir the remaining chips into the batter.

Spread into a greased 15 x 10 inch baking pan.

Sprinkle with the reserved chips.

Bake at 375 F for 18-23 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Cool on a wire rack.

Cut into bars.
