Why I Love This Recipe

I remember making this with Mom and we left it on the stove to cool down. A few minutes later we hear a crash and rush to the kitchen. Our dog had knocked it off the stove. She probably burned her mouth, but she ate it all.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp almond extract (or vanilla extract)
1 can (lb) red sour pitted cherries or whatever fruit you would like
1/4 cup sugar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Melt butter in a 9x9 cake pan. Combine sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Pour over melted shortening but DO NOT STIR. Add almond extract to cherries and pour cherries and juice over flour mixture. DO NOT STIR. Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar over cherries. Bake until done about 45 minutes.
