Why I Love This Recipe

I use white cream cheese frosting. You may like to use chocolate.

I have been baking this cake so long I can't remember where it came from. My family wants one every christmas.

Ingredients You'll Need

2 sticks butter - softened
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 heaping Tablespoons Nestle's Milk Chocolate
2 (1oz.) bottles red food coloring
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 egg yolks
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon vinegar
2-1/2 cups cake flour
sift - 3 times
3 stiffly beaten egg whites
1 teaspoon soda

Directions

Grease and flour 3 - 8 inch cake pans.

Sift together milk chocolate, salt, flour and soda. Set aside.

Beat the egg whites until stiff and set aside.

Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy;

add red food coloring and vanilla. Mix well.

Add egg yolks, mix well.

Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk mixing well after each addition.

Add vinegar and mix well.

Fold in beaten egg whites.

Pour even amounts into each cake pan and bake at 350% 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

Cool in pan 5 minutes and turn out onto cooling rack.

Frost when completely cold.
