Why I Love This Recipe

This recipe is special because I concocted it out of what I found in the Mayfield pantry. It was a special request from Aaron Mayfield. He asked me to write down my recipe so he could enjoy them in the future.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 1/2 cups Lard (substitute with butter)
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 large eggs
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup rum
1/8 teaspoon almond extract
6 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons anise
1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon mixture to sprinkle on top of cookies


Cream sugars with lard or butter until fluffy. Add eggs, water, rum, almond extract and stir. Beat in dry ingredients. Dough should be soft and pliable. Section dough into quarters. Roll out each section of dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shape and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with a combination of sugar and cinnamon. Place in a 350 degree preheated oven and bake 12-15 minutes or until golden.
