Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Bess Scott's style (Also Shit On A Shingle)

Why I Love This Recipe

The sausage biscuit and gravy came up here w/ my Grandma Scotts family from the southern states. It was served w/ breakfast foods. Shit on a Shingle I got from my mom Barb Fankhauser. She made hers w/ chipped beef. There is also more gravy mixes using this basic recipe. My mom used the hamburger gravy and a friend told us of the fried bologna version. Basically the sausage gravy is over biscuits, the chipped beef and bologna is over buttered toast and the hamburger one is usually served over mashed potatoes, french fries or noodles. I'll put all the variations of this recipe dwn below.


Ingredients You'll Need

Sausage Gravy and biscuits:
2 lb Bulk breakfast sausage (I use sage flavored)
About 6 cups Milk
6 TBS Butter
Pepper
Opt: salt
Opt: couple shakes garlic powder
About 2 handfuls of Flour (or aprox 2/3rds - 1 cup)
Fresh biscuits (aprox 2-3 per person)

Shit on a Shingle
Chipped beef or corned beef
3 cups milk
2 TBS butter
1 onion
Garlic powder
Pepper
Opt: salt
Opt: mushrooms
A couple handfuls of Flour
Buttered white toast or garlic bread or texas toast

Hamburger Gravy
1 LB Hamburger
3 cups milk
2 TBS butter
1 onion
Garlic powder
Pepper
Opt: salt
Opt: mushrooms
Opt: Green peppers
Opt: frozen peas
A couple handfuls of Flour
Serve over Mashed potatoes, french fries or noodles

Bologna Gravy
1-2 lb bologna cut up
3 cups milk
2 TBS butter
Opt: mushrooms
A couple handfuls of Flour
Buttered white toast, garlic bread or texas toast


Directions

Sausage Gravy and biscuits:


Fry up sausage add butter then add flour


Add milk and pepper and stir till thickened


Heat through


Spoon over biscuits sliced in 1/2


Hamburger Gravy


Brown hamburger and strain


Add onion and cook 'till soft sprinkle w/ garlic powder (add mushrooms if using them)


Add milk , butter, pepper and flour
*Opt: salt


Heat through


Serve over toast (or any of the other variations)
