4 large peeled potatoes, pared
3 TBSP butter or margarine
3 TBSP flour
1 ¾ cup milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp salt
½ tsp garlic powder
¾ cup buttered bread crumbs


Preheat oven to 375. Slice potatoes about ¼ inch thick. Place in saucepan, bring to a boil, reduce heat, cook for 15 minutes. Meanwhile melt margarine in saucepan. Stir in flour. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Cook until sauce is thickened. Remove from heat, stir in cheese, salt and garlic. Fold sauce into potatoes, turn into buttered ½ quart baking dish. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
