Why I Love This Recipe

Dough is easy to work with.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 c butter or margarine
2/3 c sugar
2/3 c light corn syrup
1 1/2 t vanilla
1 beaten egg
4 c flour
2 t baking powder

In a saucepan combine butter, sugar and syrup. Cook and stir over medium heat until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Pour into mixing bowl. Stir in vanilla. Cool for five minutes.

Add egg and mix well. In a bowl stir together flour and baking powder. Add dry ingredients to egg mixture; mix well. Cover and chill at least two hours or overnight.

Shape dough into balls, or roll out and cut with cookie cutter. Arrange on ungreased baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges are firm. Cool on wire racks.

Shape-Up Spiced Cookies: Prepare dough as above, except substitute molasses or dark corn syrup for light syrup and use only 1 1/2 t baking powder. Add 1 1/2 t ground ginger, 1/2 t ground cloves, 1 1/2 t cinnamon, and 1/4 t baking soda to dry ingredients.

Shape-Up Chocolate Cookies: Prepare dough as directed, except decrease butter to 2/3 c and melt 2 squares (2 oz) unsweetened chocolate with butter mixture in saucepan.
