Why I Love This Recipe

I love oatmeal cookies. But I love chocolate even more and I had a craving for both, and for some luscious and spicy cinnamon. So I thought I'd play around in the kitchen to see if I could make up something just a little different. Here is the result.

Ingredients You'll Need

3/4 cup butter, creamed
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 oz or squares unsweetened chocolate, melted & cooled
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup flour, sifted
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup milk
1 3/4 cup rolled oats

Cream butter until smooth,, then add brown sugar and mix until soft. Mix in egg and melted, cooled chocolate. Stir in vanilla. Sift flour, measure out needed amount, then add all other dry ingredients except oats. Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Work in oats until mixed in well. Drop by rounded spoonfuls (about the size of a walnut) onto cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F. About 3 dozen

Add chopped nuts if you wish. Or how about M&M's instead? Or do what I do and sprinkle colorful 100's & 1000's (nonpareils) for a more festive touch.
