"The best tasting buttermilk biscuits you will find!"

Serves 9 biscuits (more if smaller) | Prep Time 20-25 minutes (15 of that is chilling in the freezer) | Cook Time 13-15 minutes

Why I Love This Recipe

I always wanted to make delicious biscuits like the ones I had as a kid. It took me a long time to get this right, but my family loves these more than anything I have tried.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup shortening
2 1/4 cup Self-rising flour
1 1/4 cup full fat buttermilk
Melted butter for brushing (use salted butter)

Cut shortening and flour together with a pastry cutter until it looks similar to cornmeal.

Chill mixer in freezer about 15 minutes.

Add buttermilk and mix together.

Turn out onto flour covered wax paper. If it is sticky, add a little bit of flour. It should be a little moist, but not sticking all over your fingers.

Pat the dough into a rectangle about 12 x 6 inches.

Fold the dough like a letter. Turn it and flatten again. Do this 3 times total.

Press dough to a little less than an inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter. Do NOT twist your cutter, just press it down or your biscuit won't rise.

Cook at 450 for 13-15 minutes. They are done when the top is golden brown.

Brush with melted butter.

Pairs Well With

My yummy sausage gravy or jelly.
