Why I Love This Recipe
Candy-making gained popularity during Halloween as early as the late 19th century when communities started promoting the holiday as a festive occasion for all.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Food coloring (pastel green, purple, orange)
Cornstarch (for dusting)
Assorted Halloween-shaped molds
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, evaporated milk, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the mixture starts to boil, stirring constantly.
Once boiling, reduce to low heat and continue to stir for approximately 5 minutes until the mixture has thickened slightly. Remove from heat.
Add vanilla extract and divide the mixture into three small bowls.
Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl (one color per bowl), and mix well until the colors are uniform.
Lightly dust Halloween-shaped molds with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
Carefully spoon the colored candy mixture into the molds. Gently tap the molds to remove air bubbles.
Allow to cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour. Once cooled, gently remove candies from the molds.
Arrange candies on a plate for serving or package them in individual bags as delightful Halloween treats.
Pairs Well With
