"A modern version of Grandma's"

Serves 8 servings | Prep Time 20 minutes | Cook Time 3.5 hours

Why I Love This Recipe

Grandma's Eat-More- A Stew" was essentially a hamburger noodle dish while this recipe is a hearty stew

Ingredients You'll Need

2 lbs lean stew beef
1 pkg frozen tiny peas
1 lb carrots, cubed
4 lg stalks celery, cubed
1 pkg sliced mushrooms
1-2 onions, coarsely chopped
6 potatoes cut into chunks*

Sauce:
1 can consomme or beef broth
1/2 cup Burgundy or red wine
8 oz of tomato sauce
1 T salt
1 T sugar
1/4 cup tapioca

Directions

Combine beef, carrots, celery and onion in a large covered roasting pan.

Mix sauce ingredients and pour over meat and vegetables. Stir well

Bake in oven for 2 1/2 hours at 325 degrees.

Add mushrooms, peas and potatoes and bake for another hour.

* Option - serve over mashed potatoes instead of adding potatoes to stew.

Pairs Well With

Crusty bread
