Stewed orange pears

Why I Love This Recipe
A different form of the old-fashioned stewed apples. My dad gave me the idea the other day when I was trying to figure out what to do with 4 ripe pears and a lonely zest-less orange. My French grandma used to do stewed apples and eat it warm with a dollop of heavy cream. You can substitute the heavy cream for a tablespoon single cream, thick Greek-style yogurt or any other topping of your choice (chocolate chips anyone?)
Ingredients You'll Need
4 ripe pears
juice of 1 orange
2 tsp vanilla sugar
2-3 drops sweet orange essential oil (optional)
2-3 drops cinnamon essential oil (optional)
Directions
Wash, peel (optional) and chop the pears
Put the pear, orange juice and vanilla sugar in a pan over medium heat and allow the pears to caramelize.
When the pears are soft, mash them. If you add essential oils, add them now and stir. Note: essential oils are very strong, so don't use more than 3 or 4 drops.
Cook for another 5-10 minutes.
Serve warm, lukewarm or cool, with or without a topping.
