"Yellow cake with fresh strawberries, frosted with whipped cream.""

Serves 12-15 | Prep Time 20-30 minutes | Cook Time 25-35 minute bake time

Why I Love This Recipe

Our family loves fresh strawberries, but they do not care for strawberry shortcake. So this is one of the ways we enjoy fresh strawberries in season.

Ingredients You'll Need

For the cake:
GGFG Yellow Cake Mix, baked according to package directions as a layer cake or in 9”x13” pan.
ingredients called for in cake mix
large package of strawberries, sliced
½ c. sugar
For the frosting:
1 pt. heavy whipping cream
1/3 c. sugar
½ t. cream of tartar

Make and bake cake according to directions. Cool cake completely. Meanwhile, slice strawberries and add sugar, stir and set aside. When cake is completely cool, use a drinking straw to poke holes all over top of each cake layer; spoon berries between layers of cake as put layers together, reserving some berries for top. If making a sheet cake, poke holes over all and spread berries over entire top. Whip cream in a stand or hand mixer starting on low speed until cream begin to thicken, add sugar and cream or tartar, increase speed and beat until cream can hold stiff peaks. Do no overbeat or you will end up with sweetened butter. Spread on sides and top of layer cake or on top of sheet cake. You can decorate the cake with the whipped cream if desired.
