Why I Love This Recipe

This is a recipe that my Mother had when I was a child at home. I copied the recipe down from her and have kept it in my recipe file for over 27 years. The key is to bake the cookies only until lightly brown and then let them sit on the cookie sheet as mentioned above.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 Cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening or margarine
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 T. milk
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 cups oatmeal
chopped nuts (approx. 1 cup)
chocolate chips (approx. 1 bag)
and/or coconut (I love coconut so I add approx. 1 1/2 cups)

1 Cup brown sugar, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup shortening or margarine, 2 eggs, 2 tsp. vanilla and 2 T. milk

Sift together and add: 2 cups flour, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. baking powder ,1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 2 cups oatmeal.

Add the optional ingredients to your taste (if desired)

Drop on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8-10 min. Be sure to let them sit on the cookie sheet for 2 min. after baking before removing to a rack to cool.

Questions, Comments & Reviews

You have no idea how happy you have made me, my whole family. My mom made these off of the bag of Sunnyfield oatmeal. I know there was a copy cut from the bag in her favorite cookbook when they moved to California. But one day when we went to make them, it was gone! For decades we have searched in vain for a copy of the recipe. Every so once in a while I would google "Sunnyfield Oatmeal cookies" and one day I found you. Tahnk you,
