Why I Love This Recipe

From Joan S./Jill G:

This recipe is from a collection of all turkey recipes that are two hole punched on the top and held together with loose leaf binder rings. It likely dates back to the 80’s. It appears to be the only recipe used from the collection. My mom only made this every Christmas Eve, which is when we celebrated Christmas. The story goes that we celebrated on Christmas Eve because my great grandmother didn’t want to get up early and go anywhere on Christmas morning. This is the first time I’ve read this recipe myself and is also the only recipe I’ve encountered that called for MSG.

Ingredients You'll Need

5 lbs. cut and sliced turkey (approx. 1"x2" strips)
cornstarch for coating turkey
2-3 beaten eggs

Sauce: heat until sugar dissolves
¾ c sugar
½ c vinegar
¼ c turkey stock
3-4 Tbsp catsup
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tsp Accent or MSG

Directions

Sprinkle turkey strips with garlic salt and let sit for 1 hour

Dip turkey strips in cornstarch, then beaten egg, and brown in oil until golden

Mix sauce ingredients together in a saucepan until sugar has dissolved

Place into baking dish, cover with sauce and bake uncovered for 1 hour, turn occasionally
