Why I Love This Recipe

Ingredients You'll Need

8oz cream cheese, cold (I typically use Neufchatel cream cheese)
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract


1) Place the cream cheese in a mixing bowl.

2) Using a hand mixer, beat until smooth.

3)Gradually add the butter 2 Tablespoons at a time, and continue beating until smooth and well blended.

4)Add powdered sugar and vanilla all at once. Blend until just combined. Use for any recipe that calls for cream cheese frosting.


This frosting always works for me, but if you run into issues, try these tips:

*Be sure not to over mix the frosting once the powdered sugar is added or it can become loose and hard to pipe.

**Place frosting in the refrigerator for an hour or two if it seems soft before trying to pipe onto cakes/cupcakes.
