Why I Love This Recipe

Gooey Butter Cake is a wonderful St. Louis treat and having grown up in the St. Louis area, I never knew it was local to the area. It wasn’t until I moved away and went to the grocery store only to find that I couldn’t buy a gooey butter cake, that I started making it for myself. It is a really easy recipe which is good for me and the kids can help too

Ingredients You'll Need

Cake:
(1)18 ounce (+/-) package of yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons of butter, melted

Filling:
(1)8 ounce package of cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons of butter, melted
(1)16 ounce box of powdered sugar

Directions

Cake:

1.Preheat oven to 350 deg F

2.Combine the cake mix, egg and butter and mix well with an electric mixer.

3.Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9 inch baking pan.

Filling:

4.In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.

5.Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.

6.Add the powdered sugar and mix well.

7.Spread filling over cake batter.

8.Bake for 45 minutes.

9.Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.
