Why I Love This Recipe
This has been a favorite in our family for years, especially during Christmas time and special family gatherings.

Ingredients You'll Need
Bottom Layer:
1 cup regular oats
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 tsp. soda
1/3 cup melted margarine
Middle Layer:
3 Tbsp. cocoa
1 Tbsp. oil
1/4 cup margarine
2/3 cup flour
1/8 tsp. soda
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Top Layer:
3 Tbsp. cocoa
1 Tbsp. oil
2 Tbsp. margarine
1 1/2 cup icing sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
hot water
Directions
Prepare bottom layer by mixing together oats, flour, brown sugar and soda. Stir in melted margarine. Pat into ungreased pan and bake at 350F for 10 minutes. Cool.
Prepare middle layer by mixing together on low heat cocoa, oil and margarine; let cool.
Stir together flour, soda and cooled melted cocoa.
Add sugar, egg and vanilla; beat just to combine.
Add alternately: flour mixture and 1/4 cup milk into cocoa mixture; Stir to combine.
Stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Spread over bottom layer.
Bake 350ºF for 25-30 minutes depending on hotness of oven. Slight indent when touched shows it's done. Don't overbake. Cool.
To prepare icing, combine cocoa, oil and margarine.
Stir in icing sugar and vanilla.
Stir in enough hot water or milk (approximately 2 Tbsp.) to make almost pourable. Spread on brownies and cut when set.
