Alan Jackson's Country Fried Steak with Onion Gravy
INGREDIENTS
  • Servings: 3 to 4
  • 1 lb. cubed steak
  • 1/2 tsp. meat tenderizer
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tb. and 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 c. water
DIRECTIONS
  1. Sprinkle steak with meat tenderizer and salt. Dredge steaks in 1/4 c. flour.
  2. Heat oil in frying pan.
  3. When oil is hot, brown steak on both sides.
  4. Remove steak from pan. Reduce heat.
  5. Stir in 2 tb. flour and dash of salt.
  6. Brown flour.
  7. Add about 1 1/2 c. water.
  8. Return steak to pan.
  9. Add onions.
  10. Cover and simmer on low heat 20-30 min. until meat is tender.
  11. If gravy is too thick, add more water to make the gravy the right consistency.
  12. Check for taste on salt.

COOKS NOTES: Serve hot with biscuits, mashed potatoes and salad. I also added some black pepper. And, I think that it could be revised to use a little less oil. This was very tasty.
