Almond Bars

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup almond paste
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
DIRECTIONS
  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter, almond paste, and 2 cups sugar until light and fluffy
  2. Beat in the eggs and extract.
  3. Gradually add the flour just until moistened
  4. Spread into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish
  5. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar
  6. Top with almonds
  7. Bake at 350 F for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean
  8. Cool on a wire rack
  9. Cut into squares
