Apple Butter
  • 5 1/2 - 6 lbs apples
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  1. Peel, core and finely chop the apples. Place in crock pot, add sugar, salt and spices and stir. Cook on high for 1 hour then cook on low for 8-12 hours. If lumpy, I use an immersion blender to smooth it out. Can in sterilized jars or freeze
This is the original recipe but I always alter it. I usually only put in 2 cups sugar and add more spice. I am putting the original recipe down because your taste may prefer the original. This is cooked in a crock pot and takes a long time, but worth it. I can it and it usually makes 8 1/2 pint jars. See my blog for which apples I used this time.
