Apple Danish Pastry Bars

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 1/2 c sifted flour
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1/2 c margarine
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 c cornflakes
  • 8-10 apples, pared and sliced
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 c sifted powdered sugar
  • 3-4 t milk
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine flour and salt, cut in shortening and margarine. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup, adding enough milk to make 2/3 c liquid. Mix well and stir into flour mixture. Roll half dough into a 17x12" rectangle. Fit into and up the sides of a 15x10x1" baking pan. Sprinkle cornflakes on dough. Top with apples. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top. Roll remaining dough and place on top. Seal edges and cut slits into dough. Beat egg white until frothy, brush on top of crust. Bake in 375F oven for 50 minutes. Combine powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle on warm pastry.
