Applesauce sandwiches

- 1 cup chunky style applesauce
- 8 slices French bread, cut from loaf
- 1/4 cup softened butter or margarine
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
DIRECTIONS
- Slice French bread into eight 1-inch pieces.
- Remove butter or margarine from refrigerator to soften.
- In a small bowl, mix sugar and spices; set aside.
- Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium high heat on stove.
- Butter one side of each piece of bread.
- Spread applesauce on four of the slices and place each, butter side down, in pan.
- Top with other slice of buttered bread.
- Cook for four to five minutes, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from pan, sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture over each sandwich, and cut in halves or quarters to serve.
