Asian-Style Beef Strips

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 lbs. round steak 3/4-inch
  • 2 Tbls. cooking oil
  • 4 Tbls. soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • or 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 4 Tbls. cornstarch
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 1/2 Cup water chestnuts, sliced
  • green onions to taste
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cut meat into strips 3/4-inch
  2. wide and 3 - 4-inch long. In
  3. large heavy saucepan, brown
  4. meat on all sides in oil and
  5. drain. Add water to equal
  6. 2 Cups. Add soy sauce and
  7. garlic. Cover and simmer
  8. 45 minutes over low heat. Add
  9. celery, replace cover,
  10. and continue cooking for
  11. 15 - 20 minutes longer.
  12. Combine cornstarch and cold,
  13. water stirring until well-blended.
  14. Gradually add to meat mixture,
  15. stirring constantly until
  16. liquid boils and thickens.
  17. Remove from heat and
  18. stir in water chestnuts.
  19. Top with pepper strips.
  20. Serve over hot rice
