Aunt Hildegarde's Sugar Cookies
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. crisco (may use part butter)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  1. Cream sugar, crisco, egg & vanilla.
  2. Add dry ingredients.
  3. Form into balls about the size of a walnut.
  4. Dip in sugar but DO NOT PRESS DOWN!!!
  5. They crack open and flatten as they bake. Bake in 350ยบ oven for 10 - 12 minutes or 'til edges are light brown.
  6. Mmmm!
These are the most tender and best tasting sugar cookies I've ever had!! I got this recipe from a very good friend who's Aunt Hildegarde was reknowed for her baked goodies. And she was always generous in sharing her recipes, too!! These will absolutely melt in your mouth!!
