Bavarian Apple Torte
INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup margarine, at room temperature
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp vanilla or almond flavoring
  • 1 cup flour
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla or almond flavoring
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup walnuts or almonds, chopped
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 450° F.
  2. Cream margarine, sugar and vanilla.
  3. Blend in flour by hand.
  4. Spread dough onto bottom and sides of torte pan or springform pan.
  5. Combine softened cream cheese and sugar.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Add egg and vanilla.
  8. Mix well with hand mixer.
  9. Pour into pastry lined pan.
  10. Combine sugar and cinnamon.
  11. Toss apples in sugar and cinnamon.
  12. Arrange apple slices around top of cream cheese.
  13. Sprinkle with nuts.
  14. Bake in 450° F oven for 10 minutes.
  15. Reduce heat to 400° F.
  16. Bake for 30 minutes.
  17. Cool at room temperature. Chill for 3 hours.
  18. *Drizzle caramel sauce over torte and serve.
