Beau Monde Bread
  • 1 unsliced loaf or round of sandwich bread (round works well, but rectangular is OK)
  • Seasoning Mixture:
  • 8 oz. Swiss cheese slices
  • ½ lb. softened butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 Tbsp. grated onion
  • 1 Tbsp. mustard
  • ½ tsp. beau monde seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  1. Cut all crusts off bread. Start ½" in from edge and cut three X's ¾ way through the top of the bread. Be sure not to slice all the way to the sides or the bottom of the loaf. Stuff the X's with the Swiss cheese. (You may need to hold it together with toothpicks). Blend butter with the remaining 5 ingredient seasonings in food processor or with the back of a wooden spoon (less messy). Cover the loaf completely with the seasoning mixture. Place loaf on aluminum foil rolled loosely ¾ of the way up the sides of the loaf (not touching). Bake for 30 minutes at 350° until crisp. Cut into chunks before serving. Can be prepared days in advance and frozen until ready to bake. This recipe is unique, yet universally delicious!
