Boston Brown Bread

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
DIRECTIONS
  1. In a large bowl, mix together sugar, raisins, baking soda, salt, margarine and boiling water. Cover and let stand overnight.
  2. The following day, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  4. Beat egg and flour into raisin mixture.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean.
